.Exhibition Description: Iterations: An action or process of repeating by which a sequence of operations yields results successively closer to a desired result. My intention in this exhibition is to make clear the dynamic way in which each work of art leads to the next, the paintings building upon one another.

Seeing art in relation to theater, I am not inclined to directly represent a subject. I make use of significant exaggerations and inventive light for the sake of dramatic effect. I want my work to be evocative and true to the way I experience the life I am engaged in. I want my work to reflect that I lead with my heart and I see the world from an emotional and spiritual reference point. I want you to have the sensation of feeling the extraordinary in the ordinary. I do.

Biography: Nancy was born with a keen interest in art, nurtured by her mother, that in high school and college expanded to include the study of art history. She explains that painting for her is a constant experiment, because she is energized by new approaches, some intentional and others that spontaneously occur. While her background is in the plein air tradition, over time, her practice has moved to her studio, evolving from small studies and photographs towards larger works, including still lifes, landscapes, and portraiture.

In the early 80’s she attended the Isabel O’Neill Studio for Painted Finishes in New York, and with those skills established a business of decorative painting for private clients and interior designers along the east coast.

In order to balance the demands of raising a family and her professional life, she renewed a rigorous practice and study of fine art. She received instruction in plein air and figurative painting at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, MD, at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C., and was a recipient of a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT, all while studying individually in workshops with well known artists whose work captivated her. She has participated in the Frederick, MD, and Wayne, PA, Plein Air Festivals, and has enjoyed representation and featured exhibitions at the Metropolitan Gallery in Arlington, VA, and Mars Hall Gallery in Tenants Harbor, ME. Recently, Nancy had the opportunity to illustrate an award winning children’s book, The First Blade of Sweetgrass, published in 2021 by Tilbury House.
