Anne McClellan / Julie Crane / Joan Losee
Anne McClellan
Ann McClellan creates decorative sculptural and functional wares. Ann’s daily walks along the shore and through forests and fields support and inform her creative practice. She appreciates the history of ceramics and traditional forms, a sensibility in her design choices and use of materials and methods. She works with both mid-range and high-fire glazes, utilizing processes for electric, salt, soda and wood firings. Ann’s current practice reflects a dedication to traditional craft, shaped by an apprenticeship in Karatsu, Japan, followed by years teaching and making art. She shares her home and studio with her collaborative partner Billy Ray Sims in Camden, Maine.

Julie Crane statement…
Joan Losee
“I have been painting and drawing for over 30 years. Although I work primarily in Oil, I have also worked in Watercolor, Egg Tempera and Pastel.
Most of my work is in Landscape and Portraits. I choose ordinary subjects and try to demonstrate their extraordinary emotion, beauty, and presence. I especially love the work of Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and Robert Henri, and I strive in my work to reach the strength of expression these artists achieved.
I believe one cannot break the rules until one has mastered the rules. With this in mind, I have participated in many workshops given by current artists whom I admire. My paintings reflect the excellent training I have had working with these artists. I am constantly striving to increase my proficiency and maintain a freshness in my artistic expression.”
