Marc Roman
OIL & WATER
“My latest, mostly coastal paintings are split into two distinct categories: works on paper painted with water based acrylics and works on canvas painted with oil paints. For myself, these two mediums require completely different tactics and strategies. The paper works are immediate and fluid, painted in a matter of hours. The oil paintings require multiple sessions and may take months as I sometimes work on up to 10 at a time. The cohesion in these paintings is in the subject matter, the similar compositions, and in the palette I keep consistent in both mediums.”

Marc Roman has been painting for over 30 years, first as a plein aire landscape painter in Westchester County NY and then as an abstract painter, having moved to Manhattan for 7 years. He has also worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, and eventually as an art director.
After painting large scale abstractions for decades and working full-time as an art handler/preparator in museums and galleries in NYC, Connecticut, and Washington DC, Roman returned to landscape painting 5 years ago to fulfill a promise to begin painting from the photos he had taken during vacations and local travels.
Roman is now painting full-time and is represented by Jo Fleming Contemporary Art in Annapolis Md. This is his first exhibition in Maine.
