Dreaming: Tributes to the Night and the Half-Light

Edward Hopper once said, "Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world." My paintings represent my unique, personal vision of the world. Additionally, the subject is not painted just as I see it, but rather, as I feel it.  Painting takes invisible emotions and allows them to be seen.

Moreover, I am interested in the representation of time. Many of my paintings capture dusk and are a reflection of a place in its final moments before days end. I am inspired by the way in which light and shadows can reflect the ephemeral nature of life. Furthermore, I am concerned with depicting  the fleeting magic of moments that are difficult to describe with words.

Katherine Ashby lives in Castleton-on-Hudson, New York with her husband and five children, where she was born and raised. She spends her summers vacationing and painting in Tenants Harbor, Maine at her family cottage. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art and Psychology from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. Katherine enjoys painting seascapes from coastal Maine in addition to local farm and river landscapes.
